WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) today issued the following statement on the service of Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius:
"Whether it was as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services or as Governor of Kansas, Kathleen Sebelius has always been one of our nation's best and brightest public servants.
"Despite constant and relentless opposition, she has fought every day in every way to make health insurance a reality for millions of Americans.
"She has been a phenomenal partner and tireless advocate in efforts to improve women's health care - fighting to eliminate gender discrimination in health care and fighting to make sure women have access to the unique care and services they and their families need.
"She successfully worked to ensure that Americans have insurance coverage of mental health services, just as they do for other health services. She has devoted her time to fighting childhood obesity and protecting our citizens from dangerous influenza strains.
"There has been no fiercer advocate for the public health than Ms. Sebelius. I wish her and her family well in all their future endeavors, and I thank them for their service to our country."
